My name is Taylor Choma, I am an 19 year old drummer with a passion for rocking out. I have self-taught myself the drums since I first picked up a set of sticks six years ago. I spent two years of my drumming career in a band called Longway, and in those two years I developed a style that consists of many different influences, as well as my own ways of playing.
I got my start in drumming in grade 8 music class. I was sitting behind the kit at the end of class, playing a simple beat when my teacher overheard me. She stopped me dead in my tracks and said “Taylor. You are now the drummer for the school band.” Mrs. Niles was the first person to ever have faith in me as a drummer and give me a shot. I would be nowhere without her, so I thank her for everything. I have been told by many friends and musicians that my drumming is on par with that of my hero, Neil Peart; and that is the greatest compliment I have ever received as a musician.
I am a very energetic drummer, who loves playing all the classic rock beats of the 70’s and 80’s! I wouldn’t feel right without giving thanks to my biggest supporter: My Dad, for without him I would never be where I am in terms of musicianship. My dad took me to see Rush when I was 13 years old. When I went to that concert, I had no idea who Rush was, nor did I know what I was in for. When we left that concert I turned to my dad and told him “See that drummer up there? That is going to be me one day.” One final note: Who needs therapy when you have drums?
