Izzy Bartok – aka: Ed Pranskus….or is it the other way around ?
Ed Pranskus, former drummer of Thundermug has seen his way around the business from all perspectives. Using the moniker “Izzy Bartok” has reinvented himself and in the process – has given himself a new road to travel.
Having sent some tapes to contacts in Toronto that he knew, the feedback he got was surprising and most importantly – purely positive !!

The songs are spunky, funky hip-hop ditties that are quite infectious and nothing at all like the music Ed Pranskus had previously made. Unless you had grown up like I did in the early Seventies and had first hand knowledge of who Thundermug was – you would be hard pressed to link the Izzy Bartok persona to the former Thundermug skin-basher. It was a decision that Ed (Izzy) made by design.
Wanting to break away from his 1st musical career, Izzy has garnerd nearly 5000 fans on Facebook without the clout of using is former band’s reputation. Being a Hip-Hop fan for some time but rarely letting his musical peers know, Ed has now embarked on his 2nd career in music – and it is taking off like a rocket at a time when most musicians are either settled into a less active musical life or are resting on what they once accomplished but have never re-captured.
Thundermug had a reputation as an excellent band that was well deserved: yet for all their touring, recording and hard work – were never rewarded the way they possibly should have been. Now Ed, in dabbling with his love of a certain genre of music that is far removed from his early days, has found immense success that is growing daily as many more fans of all demographics relish the drive and determination of what he is accomplishing.
Allstage Note: Having seen Ed (Izzy) play live at one of my Jams, his skillset at drumming is beyond most drummers half his age. This man is a natural talent behind a kit – no matter what style is in play, Ed has the chops and skill to make heads turn – I’ve seen it happen in person. The respect for his ability from his peers is immense, myself included, and yet talking to him many times in person – he is warm, unassuming, humble and friendly. I’ve made many, many friends through Allstage – yet there is something about Ed that touched me inside, maybe it was the gift of friendship !!!
Most of the above editorial was supplied by myself, some content was also the talent & property of Bob Klanac – a wonderful writer in The Beats Magazine.
